"Restoring Hope Through Strategic Risk Management”.
The key to a successful financial plan is to
accumulate the capital or money necessary to see it through to the end. Therefore,
we believe risk management is the foundation of any financial plan. The question
then becomes what risk management system do you use in order to have the greatest
odds of being able to execute the plan?
The conventional notion of risk management is
“modern portfolio theory” (MPT) formulated by Harry Markowitzt
in the 1950’s. Stated simply MPT says that investors can minimize market risk
for an expected level of return by properly diversifying their assets. In other
words “buy and hold for the long-term” and “don’t put all your eggs in one
basket”. We believe adherents to this theory have settled into a state of
listless passivity as they watch the value of their investments erode, and their
hopes erode as well.
We believe a properly designed system of risk
management must be actively managed, and include both the old and the new. We
embrace modern portfolio theory, but have added to it technical indicators, a
compass, for guiding our investment advice. We take a top down approach, which
helps us determine who currently controls the market – buyers or sellers. If buyers
are in control we use strategies that help accumulate wealth. However, if sellers
are in control our strategies change to involve wealth preservation strategies.
The devastating markets since 2000 have taught most
folks one thing. Whatever they are doing is not working
and does not give hope. If your find yourself is this
situation we invite your find out more about how we manage risk in the in
Risk Management System FAQ’s.
